What we do 

We are the Pedology and Soil Biogeochemistry Lab at Texas A&M University. Soils are complex,  dynamic, and diverse ecosystems that connect the living and non-living world. We approach the study of soils as natural bodies by embracing their complexity, wholeness, and beauty. Our studies range from the microscale up to the landscape. We are particularly interested in the effect of human activities and disturbances on soil properties and functions.
​We are always interested in finding opportunities for new motivated students and developing enriched collaborative networks that can help us heighten our fundamental understanding of soil systems.

Who we are

Our group is composed by a dynamic and diverse group of motivated researchers and students seeking to improve our fundamental understanding of pedological process in a changing world. The group is led by Dr. Felipe Aburto, Assistant Professor of Pedology and Soil Biogeochemistry as well as researchers and graduate students he mentors at the Soil and Crop Sciences Department at Texas A&M University (TAMU). The lab also serves as a hub for many other postdoctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students from various programs within and outside TAMU.

Our Lab

Our laboratory is very well equipped to perform the most common and advance analytical techniques used in Pedology and Soil Biogeochemistry. TAMU also has immense amount of facilities and advanced analytical tools available for researchers and students.  The PSB group also have a multitude of specialize field equipment and tools to collect and sample soils. We collaborate with other laboratories within and outside the department that complement some of the analytical tools we regularly use in our research.
